Burning on allotments

The Council has issued guidelines to the Secretaries of all Sunderland allotments.

These are essentially RULES

ANY burning action that is antisocial or breaches Council guidelines

is not the liability of the Society, but of the individual;

and any legal action is taken against the individual involved.

Infringement can also be grounds for the Society

or the Council

to terminate a particular plot holder's tenancy agreement.

The guidelines include:

Of an applianance:

Do not burn wood

Do not burn sea coal

unless it has been exempted from the Clean Air Act

Burn smokeless fuel in accordance with the Clean Air Act

With other general burning:

DO NOT CAUSE A NUISANCE

(Be advised that 'a nuisance' is determined by your neighbour and not by you)

Ensure that only dry material is burned (low smoke)

Watch weather conditions  and air flow

Avoid evenings and damp days (as the smoke hangs in the air)

Avoid weekends and bank holidays etc.

Never burn rubber, plastic, foam, PVC or roof felt etc. !!!

Do not use oils to encourage burning!!

The full Council Guidelines can be found here  page 1   page 2

Be reminded please, that any prosecutions are against individuals and not against the Society.

you burn at your own risk.

Rents are due soon!! -

but the receipt book has not been received from the Council yet

then they will then be opened for collection.

Please be patient and watch for notices at the site (and here)

that will let you know when the new rents are being collected

NEW SECTION OF THE WEBSITE

Our allotment society is associated with Voluntary & Community Action Sunderland, and we often receive bulletins about activities organised in the area by charities and community groups.  Indidviduals can join in these or attend, and they involve everything from volunteering opportunities, to workshops, training and educational classes.

You might like to take part in some of these activities, so we will try to share these bulletins as we receive them.  You can see 'What is going on'  at the Community & Garndening Events section of this website, where there is a separate section for news from VCA Sunderland.

For the second year running, our site has been awarded the Best Allotment trophy at the Sunderland in Bloom Competition 2014
